A French insurance company conducted  a poll on  600 Japanese women ages 25 to 44 has found out what Japanese women want the most in a potential husband. 62% percent of the polled women “want to marry someone who likes what they like”.

The poll, conducted in late February by AXA Life Insurance Co on 600 such women, a unit of the AXA financial group of France, also found that 27% of the women want their potential marriage partners to have the same spending habits.

It found that 26.3% of these women want to marry someone with stable status of employment like full-time, regular workers.

The poll found those three characteristics to be the most highly valued as features of potential spouses, the insurer said.

The three features contrast sharply with the three most highly valued qualifications which women of the late 1980s and early 1990s ‘‘bubble era’’ of soaring land and stock prices used to covet in their potential mates, namely, high income, high educational background and high height—the features dubbed the ‘‘three highs’’ in those days.

The latest poll found that only 12.3% said they want to marry men with high incomes, moving the income dimension down to ninth place among various desirable qualifications they want their partners to have.

Educational background dived to 19th place, while the high height qualification plummeted to 20th place, according to the poll.

When Japanese women were asked what the “ideal income” of the potential husband should be, the average turned out to be 5.52 million yen ( $US 61,000)  per year. Although the women wanted 5.52 million Yen, women showed some leniency and stated that if they really love a man they would be fine with 2.71 million yen ($US 30,000) per year.
