Video Game sales are down 8%
Video game sales are down 8% in the U.S, Japan and the U.K for the year 2009.
The Top Global Markets report said videogame sales declined 14% in Britain, 2% in Japan and 7% in the United States last year compared with the previous year.
Console software sales fell by 6% in Britain while portable game software sales were off by 25%.
In Japan, console software sales dropped by 5% and portable game software sales fell by 1%.
In the United States, console software sales fell by 7% while portable game software sales dipped by 8%.
The report attributed much of the decline to the shrinking PlayStation 2 market, which declined in unit sales by 56% in the United States, 67% in Britain and by 55% in Japan.
It’s no surprise that video game sales are down for 2009, worse economy, and less releases can be attributed to the slight decrease. Sony has already begun working on its newest creation which is sure to boost sales.
Why do you think game sales were down for 2009? And do you think there will be an improvement for 2010?

It’s unsurprising given that quite a few big releases were pushed back into early 2010. I doubt that 3D will do much to boost sales since most of the 3D technologies that are on their way will require people to buy a new TV. The population at large is really only just catching up with HD, so I can’t see too many people scrambling to upgrade again already. 3D will likely be a very niche market for quite a while.

Think there is really no surprise with the true economy still hurting many. Most of the bigger markets have people worrying where their next paycheck will be coming from so getting new games/consoles would certainly be the furthest thing on their minds. Hope things will change soon to keep the industry alive.
