PlayStation 3 gets an official external hard drive
The PS3 will be getting an offical external hard drive in preperation for the release of Torne which is a DVR for the PS3;
With the DVR add- on Japanese PS3’s will be able to record series and schedule times for series to be recorded like most DVR’s. The series will be saved onto the Ps3’s internal hard drive or an external hard drive that’s connect to one of the Ps3’s USB ports.
Two models have been created by Buffalo which is the company licensed by Sony to be allowed to create an external for the Playstation 3.
Both models connect with the Ps3’s with a USB 2.0 cable; and both models have 500GB’s of space;
The above model costs approximately ¥14,800
The cost of the model above is ¥11,800
As with any licensed peripheral, official licensing here means that the devices meet certain qualifications stipulated by Sony. They’re both pre-formatted in a FAT32 format, allowing for immediate connection to the PS3. In addition to being used as an external recording device for Torne, the drives can also be used for backup and restore of the PS3’s internal hard drive, and for saving and playback of videos, pictures and music.
A little more info about Torne can be found here. Or here
